How Can I Prevent Flooding In My Basement?

Backflow prevention can help eliminate flooding in the city sewer system from backing up into your basement or house.

Do You Need Backflow Prevention?

Backflow prevention is a means whereby you can eliminate flooding in the city sewer system from backing up into your basement or house.

Flooding in the sewer system can be caused by blockage in the sewer lines or by an overload of the lines caused by infiltration of rain water into the sewer system.

We do everything we can to eliminate flooding of the sewer system, but the age of the system makes it almost impossible to eliminate all flooding of the sewer lines.

Until such time as the city sewer system can be completely renovated, at a cost of millions of dollars, flooding of sewer lines will continue to be an occasional problem in some parts of town.

City ordinances require installation of backflow preventers in any service line connecting a building to the city sewer system which may be subject to flooding.

Basically, if the lowest drain in your home or business is at an elevation below that of the city street, your home or business is subject to flooding and you should consider installing a backflow preventer in your sewer line.

If you question if you need a backflow preventer, please call us at our main office during regular working hours.  We will be glad to come to your home or business and advise you as to whether or not backflow prevention is necessary for you.
