After-Hours Service Charge
Whenever service call requests are received after regular office hours, on weekends, or holidays, a fee of not less than $75.00 may be charged in the event the trouble is not the responsibility of Mayfield Electric & Water Systems. This policy shall also apply to the connection of new services or the reconnection of a discontinued service.

Connection Charge
Whenever new service is to be connected, a fee of not less than $20.00 may be charged before service is connected. This includes seasonal turn-ons and temporary services.

Levelized Billing
A Levelized Billing Plan is provided for any residential customer who has lived at his present location for at least 12 months and wishes to receive his monthly utility bill spread evenly over a twelve month period (all billed services will be included).

Customers desiring to be billed under the Levelized Billing Plan may enter into the plan at any time during the year provided they have lived at their present location for at least 12 months. Application may be made at our main office or you may print the Levelized Bill Payment Plan Form, fill it out, and mail it to our main office.

Meter Re-Reads
Whenever meter readers are prevented from reading customer’s meter due to inaccessibility of meter because of animals or any other unusual condition, a fee of not less than $25.00 may be added to customer’s bill for each return trip made for the purpose of reading the meter.

Meter Testing
Whenever a meter is brought in to be tested at the request of customer, a fee of not less than $25.00 may be charged. If the meter is found to be out of the required range of the meter standards, this fee shall be waived and adjustment shall be made in customer’s bill over a period of not over thirty (30) days prior to date of such test.

Reconnection Charge
Whenever service has been disconnected for nonpayment or for violation of MEWS' rules and regulations, or a trip made for the purpose of disconnecting service, a fee of not less than $25.00 may be charged before service is restored.

Temporary Services
Customers requiring service on a temporary basis may be required to pay all costs for connection and disconnection incidental to the supplying and removing of service. A temporary service fee of not less than $25.00 may be charged for each service. This applies to circuses, carnivals, fairs, temporary constructions, and the like.

Billing Information
Bills shall be rendered monthly and shall be due for payment by the due date specified on the bill.

Please notify our office if you do not receive a bill. Payments made after the due date will be subject to a late payment charge. The late payment charge for all classes of service will be computed as a charge of 5% on the first $250.00 of the unpaid portion of the utility bill plus 1% of the unpaid portion exceeding $250.00, excluding other charges and sales tax.

Should the due date of the bill fall on a weekend or holiday, the next business day following the due date will be held as a day of grace for payment. Payments received by mail with postmark on or before the due date will be considered paid by the due date and will not be subject to the late charge.

Disconnect Notices
Disconnect notices are mailed after the due date has passed and the late charge has been applied to notify customer that service may be disconnected if the total amount due is not paid by the disconnect date specified on the notice.

Disconnect Notice Charge
A fee of not less than $2.00 may be added to the bill if a notice is printed.

Meter Damage
All meters, service connections, and other equipment furnished by Mayfield Electric & Water Systems shall be, and remain the property of MEWS. No person shall break, damage, destroy, uncover, deface, tamper with, or otherwise alter any structure, appurtenance, equipment, or other property which is part of MEWS.

If a loss or damage to the property of MEWS or any accident or injury to persons or property is caused by or results from the negligence or wrongful action of the customer, member of his household, his agent or employee, the cost of the necessary repairs or replacements shall be paid by the customer to MEWS and any liability otherwise resulting shall be that of the customer.

Meter Tampering
All meters, service connections, and other equipment furnished by Mayfield Electric & Water Systems shall be, and remain the property of MEWS.

It is unlawful for anyone other than MEWS personnel to make meter connections or any other form of alteration to standard utility services. If evidence indicates any form of alteration the customer being served at that location shall be subject to the following penalties in addition to all other penalties that may be provided by law:

$100.00 Meter Tampering charge, per meter per offense
$50.00 Meter Testing charge if the meter shows any evidence of tampering
$25.00 Reconnect charge if the reconnect is meter set only
$50.00 Reconnect charge if the reconnect has to be made at the pole or riser
Charges for any damaged MEWS equipment
Any and all damage or alterations made to the meter base or MEWS equipment will result in the service being disconnected at the pole or riser.

All damage must be repaired to the satisfaction of MEWS and must pass an electrical inspection. The customer is responsible for all repairs of their equipment and for obtaining an inspection certificate. A copy of the inspection certificate must be turned in to MEWS before the service will be reconnected.

MEWS reserves the right to “spot” or locate the position of all new services and service upgrades.

Night Deposit Box
An after-hours depository is provided at our main office for making payments after regular office hours.

Payment envelopes are provided for your convenience.

Returned Checks

The date a returned check or bank draft is honored by the bank shall be considered the payment date of the account and if this date is after the due date, the late charge shall be applied. A returned check fee of not less than $25.00 may be charged for each check or bank draft not honored by the customer's financial institution.

MEWS posts information and notifications through Social Media during normal business hours (7am to 4:30pm), Twitter and Facebook are online tools that can help connect Mayfield Electric & Water Systems effectively communicate with our customers. These tools can be used to quickly share information with people interested in our utility. Social media allows our customers to stay connected with us and receive minute-by-minute information about what’s going on with our utilities during normal business hours. There will be updates on power outages, water main breaks, boil water advisories, and traffic alerts due to maintenance. All customers do not follow MEWS on social media therefore we utilize the One Call System, local radio stations, or possibly door to door notifications when feasible. MEWS also uses social media to share information on energy and water conservation, preparedness, tips on how to lower your bill and information on special services and programs we offer to our customers.
